The honoree is a 37 year old Native American woman who has had M.S. for 8 years and was recently diagnosed with the worst stage of the disease, as well as epilepsy. Before her disease, she was a brilliant CPA with a thriving business. Since being diagnosed she had to sell her business, take on U.S. Medical Disability (as her condition prevents her to no longer work) and has lost the financial ability to get full medical insurance. She's now at the mercy of the U.S. healthcare system, Medicare. Which does NOT cover the immediate needs of an M.S. patient in which can save their life.
